The Good Face Project Offers App for Ingredient Review & Regulatory Data

Digital technology workshop presentation at NYSCC Suppliers' Day offers insight on this new app.

Technology is transforming the concept of transparency in the beauty industry. And, artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital tools such as apps are also a way to expand your brand’s online presence. Iva Teixeira, CEO at technology firm The Good Face Project, also presented at The Digital Age of Beauty with “An Innovation Platform for the Next Generation of Beauty” at NYSCC Suppliers' Day.

“Consumer pressures are increasing due to costs and delays on the value chain,” said Teixeira. “The bar is high across the boards. Consumer demand is impacting retailers and regulators as well as beauty brands and manufacturers.”

Keeping abreast with both ever-changing consumer needs and the quickly-evolving regulatory environment is becoming more of a challenge for beauty innovators in 2022, she added. At the core of the issue is the consumer's “voracious appetite” for ingredient education and transparency.

“Having to be meticulous not just about the formula, but also about the data backing the formula introduces inefficiency resulting in longer R&D cycles and higher costs. And, so, arises the need for a new generation of tools which put the power of science and consumer insight at the fingertips of the formula creator,” she explained.

One such tool is the Good Face Formulator from The Good Face Project. This app is a cloud-based tool that helps formulate clean beauty products. It also offers the latest regulatory resources available, said Teixeira.

Also available is The Good Face Index, a comprehensive ingredient ontology that allows The Good Face Project to analyze product labels and screen every ingredient for toxicity. A “GFP Safety Grade” is then provided for the product.

“For us every product is as good as its worst ingredient,” said Teixeira. “This means that if your product contains just one toxic ingredient, its GFP Safety Grade will be unsafe.”
